Roll Dice & Flip Coin
Roll 1 to 6 virtual dice or flip a coin with random results.
What are Zortyx virtual dice?
Zortyx virtual dice are a faithful simulation of six-sided physical dice (d6) you can roll directly from your browser. They include realistic 3D animation with bounce physics, roll history, the ability to roll up to 6 dice simultaneously, and a virtual coin to choose between two options (heads or tails). All results are generated with real cryptography, making them more impartial than even the most carefully manufactured physical dice.
How virtual dice work
Every time you press the roll button, the dice start a 3D animation with random movement and rotation. Meanwhile, the browser's cryptographic engine generates the final values (1-6 for each die) using crypto.getRandomValues(). The animation ends showing the real result. You can choose how many dice to roll from 1 to 6 — perfect for games requiring a single die (Parcheesi, snakes and ladders) to games requiring several (Yahtzee, Farkle).
How to use the virtual coin
The virtual coin is the fastest way to decide between two options. Press "Flip coin" and you'll get heads or tails with exactly 50% probability for each result. Ideal for binary decisions: should we go to the movies or stay home? Should we start from the left or right? Me or you? The animation simulates a real coin flip for added realism.
Popular use cases
Board games
Parcheesi, Monopoly, snakes and ladders, Yahtzee, Risk, Catan... Practically all classic board games use dice. With Zortyx you can play without needing physical dice. If you've lost the dice from your favorite game, the virtual version works exactly the same.
Role-playing games (RPGs)
For dungeon masters and players of Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder or any other role-playing game, virtual dice are perfect for remote rolls over video calls. For special dice like d20 or d100, combine with the random number generator.
Everyday decisions
The virtual coin is ideal for quick decisions between two options: who walks the dog? Action movie or drama? Pizza or Chinese food? Let chance decide and avoid unnecessary arguments.
Drinking games and parties
At gatherings with friends, virtual dice work for question games, dares or group dynamics. Rolling 6 dice at once gives plenty of room to invent fun rules on the spot. Always drink responsibly.
Math education
Math teachers use virtual dice to teach probability, sums of independent probabilities, law of large numbers and frequency distributions. Rolling hundreds of dice virtually is much more practical than doing it with physical dice.
Group decision making
In work teams, the virtual coin can unblock stuck decisions between two valid alternatives. Sometimes the important thing is to decide quickly, not pick "the best option". Randomness eliminates personal bias and speeds up the process.
Guaranteed randomness: why our dice are fairer
Physical dice, however well manufactured, have small imperfections: asymmetric engravings, uneven density, wear from use. Studies have shown that even some casino dice can have biases of 1-3% toward certain faces. Zortyx virtual dice don't have this problem: each face has exactly 16.6̄% probability, mathematically guaranteed.
The virtual coin solves another known problem: real coins are not exactly 50/50. A Stanford study found that coins tend to land on the side they started with 51% of the time. In the digital coin, 50% means exactly 50%.
Advantages over physical dice
- Always available: no losing them under the couch or forgetting them at a friend's house.
- Perfectly balanced: no biases from physical imperfections.
- Silent: play without disturbing neighbors or roommates.
- Visible history: verifiable for long games or online sessions.
- Online multiplayer: share your screen on video calls to play remotely.
- Accessibility: people with reduced mobility can "roll" dice without difficulty.
Tips for using dice online
Pick the right number of dice: don't roll more than you need. Parcheesi needs one, Monopoly two, Yahtzee five. Choosing the right number speeds up the game.
Use the history as proof: in online games with friends, the visible history serves as proof rolls were real. Avoids arguments like "did you really roll two 6s?".
For special dice, use numbers: if your game requires d20, d100 or others, go to the random number generator and set the corresponding range. It's the exact virtual equivalent.
Combine coin + dice in complex decisions: flip the coin first to decide "should I use option A or B?" and then roll the dice to refine "how much of the chosen option?" Useful in improvised role-playing games.
Frequently asked questions
Can I force a specific result?
No. Results are generated by the browser's cryptographic engine before showing the animation. It's impossible to predict or manipulate the result. This is what guarantees fair rolls.
Do dice and coin work offline?
Once the page is loaded, yes. All processing (animation, result generation) happens in your browser. You only need a connection to load the page the first time.
Can I customize the dice appearance?
Currently dice have a clean standard design. If your browser is in dark mode, Zortyx automatically adapts the visual theme. Future versions will include customization options.
Are they valid for betting or money games?
Zortyx is an entertainment tool and is not certified for regulated betting. Games of chance with real money require systems certified by official regulators. Use it for informal games and fun.
