What is the Zortyx random letter generator?

The random letter generator is a tool that picks alphabet letters at random using real cryptographic randomness. You can choose between generating a single letter or several at once, filter by uppercase or lowercase, and restrict the result to vowels only or consonants only. Ideal for word games, educational activities, group dynamics and any situation where you need random letters fairly.

Available modes

  • Uppercase only (A-Z): generates uppercase letters. Useful for acronyms, titles or just visual preference.
  • Lowercase only (a-z): generates lowercase letters. For when writing texts where uppercase doesn't fit.
  • Vowels only: generates only A, E, I, O, U. Useful for phonetic exercises or games where consonants are given.
  • Consonants only: generates only consonants. Ideal for challenges of forming words with the hardest letters.

How to use the generator step by step

  1. Choose the mode: uppercase, lowercase, vowels or consonants.
  2. Indicate how many letters you want: from 1 to several dozens.
  3. Click Generate: letters appear instantly.
  4. Copy the results: with one click you can copy them to clipboard to use in another application.

Use cases: when it will be useful

Classic word games

The game of "categories" (also known as Scattergories) needs a random initial letter per round. Zortyx generates it in one click. Players must write a word starting with that letter in categories like "country", "animal", "food", "famous person", etc.

Scrabble, Words with Friends and similar

If you've lost a tile or need to practice with random letters without being tied to the game's bag, generate letters and form words. Also ideal to train vocabulary before a tournament.

Early childhood education

For little ones learning to read and write, the random letter generator is a fantastic pedagogical tool. Generate a letter and ask the child to identify it, say its sound, think of a word starting with that letter, or write it in their notebook.

Phonetics and speech therapy

Speech therapists and language therapists frequently use random letters in their sessions. Generating a letter and asking the patient to pronounce words containing it is a standard exercise for working on specific phoneme articulation.

RPGs and character creation

Need random names for characters? Generate 2-3 initial letters and build original names. Also useful for creating fictional worlds where names follow random phonetic rules.

Mnemonics and creativity

Students using mnemonics to memorize lists can generate random letters to build acronyms. Writers with blocks use random initial letters as creative triggers to write sentences or paragraphs.

Group dynamics and team building

In company activities or groups, the random letter works for creative challenges: "invent a product starting with X", "describe a coworker with a word starting with X", "say a quality of yours starting with X". Breaks the ice and generates laughs.

Advantages of Zortyx vs other generators

  • Real cryptographic randomness: not pseudo-random like Math.random(). Each letter has exactly the same probability.
  • Flexible filters: vowels only, consonants only, uppercase or lowercase, depending on what you need.
  • No signup or download: works directly from the browser.
  • Private: everything runs locally, no data sent to servers.
  • Multilingual: the site is available in 7 languages including English, Spanish, Catalan, French, German, Italian and Portuguese.

Tips to get more out of it

Combine with a timer: for category games, add a timer (1-2 minutes) after generating the letter to add pressure and fun. There are free online timers you can open in another tab.

Avoid impossible letters in formal games: if playing categories, consider excluding letters that are very hard in English (Q, X, Z) which have few words. You can generate again if one of those comes up.

For your own crosswords: if creating a crossword or word search, generating random letters helps fill cells without predictable patterns.

Combine with our other tools: to choose between several words, use theWheel. For draws among people, the Random Draw Generator. For dice in board games, the Dice.

Frequently asked questions

Why only 26 letters?

For international compatibility, the generator uses the standard 26-letter Latin alphabet. Accented vowels and special characters are available in advanced settings but are not the default because international word games typically use only A-Z.

Can I generate letters from Greek, Cyrillic or other alphabets?

Currently only Latin alphabet. Non-Latin alphabets (Greek, Cyrillic, Arabic, Hebrew) are on the roadmap for future versions based on demand.

Will it work on my phone without installing anything?

Yes. Open this page in Chrome, Safari, Firefox or any modern mobile browser. No installation required. For quick access, add the site to your home screen from the browser menu.
